Furnace Blower Not Working? Here Are Some Troubleshooting Tips

Modern high-efficiency furnaces are complicated machines. Therefore, it is better to leave every significant furnace repair in San Bernardino, CA to expert professionals. However, it is also a fact that you try fixing some issues like power distribution disruptions, thermostat misfires, blower problems and condensate drain system issues to save hefty repair costs.

How to troubleshoot your furnace blower?

Here are some basic furnace blower troubleshooting steps you can follow to get your heating unit up and running.

  • Examine the Cables in Your Furnace: The initial thing you can do is check if the power supply got disrupted or if there is an issue with the electric fuse. If your cables seem to be in good condition, try disconnecting the fan for a few minutes and then slotting it back in. This procedure can sometimes restart the motor and fix your furnace problems.

If unplugging and replugging your fan does not work, inspect the fuse box. A power surge may have swamped your system, causing the breaker to trip. Check your fuse box for blown fuses and if you come across one, turn it back on.

  • Check that Your Thermostat Remains Accurately Set and Operating: If your blower fan is powered, the next step is to examine your furnace’s thermostat. When most heating systems get manufactured, they are pre-programmed to “auto.” However, your thermostat may malfunction, become old, or when set inaccurately, necessitating the use of a manual override.

The majority of thermostats have three settings: “on,” “auto,” and “off.” Try turning the thermostat to “on” for our reasons. This setting will force the fan to run continuously. While this isn’t perfect in terms of energy consumption, it will relieve your furnace fan troubles until an expert can come out and perform a thorough inspection and repair.

If you turn on the thermostat and nothing occurs, try substituting the batteries in your thermostat or placing the temperature controls to 3-5 degrees above the ambient temperature. If none of these work, you should contact a repair professional right away.

  • Examine the Engines and Vents: Blower engines are designed to circulate air and will not operate if there is no air to move. Always inspect the screens and vents encompassing the blower to ensure that it is not having difficulty working. Examine the housing of your air purifier and the inscriptions on your filter.

If your furnace blower isn’t working, make sure the directions on the air filter are going in the right direction. Change the direction of the filter if the arrows are referring to the wrong direction. Check the vents around the blower next.

  • Examine the Drive Belt on Your Furnace Impeller: Turn off the heater at the circuit protection board in your home to determine if the blower motor band is damaged. Return to the heater and investigate the belt that drives the blower.

So if you are facing issues with your furnace blower even after following all these easy troubleshooting tips, it is time to call our experts at Daniels Heating & Air Conditioning for your heating service in San Bernardino, CA.
